What is Backlog /Scrum used for?

This article introduces Tuleap's Backlog feature and explains how it fits into a Scrum or Agile workflow. The goal is to understand what the tool is for and when it should be activated.

Understanding the Backlog Feature

The Backlog is a tool for planning and monitoring projects.
It allows you to organize work, manage priorities and obtain short- and medium-term visibility on the activities to be carried out.

Tuleap provides a ready-to-use Scrum model, but the tool remains fully configurable.
It can therefore be used in different contexts: Scrum, Agile, Hybrid or V-Cycle.

Understanding Backlog Usage in Scrum

In Scrum, the Backlog is the ordered list of everything that needs to be done.
It is made up of work items, such as User Stories or Bugs.

Planning from the Backlog consists of:

  • List the elements to be carried out;

  • prioritise them;

  • associate them with a milestone (Release or Sprint).

Practical information

The Scrum template provided by Tuleap is in English, but all labels can be renamed.

Enable and configure the Backlog for Scrum

To activate the Backlog service, you need to go to the project administration page.

If you haven't used Backlog yet, a Scrum-based project management tool template will be initialized.
You can of course modify or adapt it at any time according to your use and needs.
